Wolverton Community Vision 2010

Action Plan Meeting

A New Action Plan for Wolverton - but who does what?

After months of consultation and discussion we finally have a comprehensive Action Plan for the future regeneration and development of Wolverton.

The Plan has six key themes for action:

Spaces and Places - Making the most of what we have and aspiring to radical change where necessary

Engaging New Audiences - Reaching out in the right way

Identity and Design - Having a clear sense of who and what we are

Connections and Linkages - Finding our place in Milton Keynes and beyond

Communication and Marketing - Getting the message across

Volunteers, Resources and Leadership - Who What How

Work has begun on securing funding or support for a number of projects within the new Action Plan. These projects include:

A Station Travel Plan

A limited amount of funding has been secured to consider how we can make the access to and from the station more pedestrian and cycle friendly. The work will also consider improvements to the bus services to and from the station.

Town Centre Blitz

With the support of the Community Safety Wardens at Milton Keynes Council, the Business and Enterprise Alliance are planning a "blitz" on the town centre to repair and maintain street furniture, improve landscaping and deal with litter hot spots.

Developing a "brand" for Wolverton

A workshop is being planned (supported by Places for People) to look at Wolverton's unique identity and how we might encapsulate this to develop a coherent marketing strategy.

Celebrating the unique heritage of Old Wolverton

The Iron Trunk Aqueduct on the Grand Union Canal in Old Wolverton celebrates it's bi-centenary in 2011 and an annual programme of events is being planned by British Waterways and partners to highlight the unique heritage of this amazing structure and the surrounding countryside.

More information will be available on all these projects at a meeting being planned for the beginning of November, and there will be an opportunity to sign-up to get involved in these and many other action plan projects.

But the main focus of the meeting will be looking at who takes overall co-ordination responsibility for the Vision and Action Plan so that local people can know who is doing what, how and why!

There are a range of organisations in the Town who have a role to play in realising the vision and action plan - the Town Council, Wolverton UN Limited, Milton Keynes Council, Churches, Schools, Community groups, Businesses, Social enterprises and voluntary organisations to name just a few

But who can and should take the lead?

If you have a view on this or want to find out more about the new Action Plan please come along to an Open Meeting on Saturday 6th November at Wyvern School from 10am to 12 noon.

For more information on this meeting or any aspect of the Refreshing the Vision process please contact Marie Osborne on 01908 320512 or e-mail m.osborne@homecall.co.uk
